William van Niekerk
Earned a master’s degree in Civil Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. William has more than twenty-five years of experience in the construction, infrastructure, energy, and real estate industry. He worked on large infrastructure projects in The Netherlands and internationally as engineer, design leader, and director at, among others, Ballast Nedam and Royal BAM Group. He led multiple mergers and growth initiatives in The Netherlands, the Middle East and Singapore. Further he worked as director of Housing Construction and as director of a public private partnership for urban development.
From 2012 to 2015 he worked as Corporate Social Responsibility Group Director at BAM and pioneered with the first annual reports based on the principles of Integrated Reporting. The integration of Sustainability into the strategy and execution of BAM’s policies led to awards in the areas of responsible supply chain management, climate action and transparency. After 2015, William focused on operational turnarounds, amongst others the international business of consultancy firm Tauw and grid operator Alliander. In 2019 he completed the merger of the Infrastructures division of the family owned company Mourik.
William held numerous board and managing director positions. He led various sector initiatives to enhance industry cooperation and market improvements, for instance as board member of the Netherlands Water Partnership and as chairman for Internalisation of Topsector Water, a governmental initiative for leading sectors in The Netherlands. Currently, William is vice chair of the Supervisory Board of SNW World, an international NGO and acts as chairman of the Netherlands Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association.
